How do you help motivated students work toward their goals?

Investing in education is truly investing in the future. The role of University Dean at Colorado Technical University allows me to have a strong impact on the development of programs and curricula in the area of Security Studies; which includes Criminal Justice and Homeland Security. Shaping our programs is truly a pleasure and an honor because many of our students are either current practitioners or plan to be practitioners in the areas of law enforcement, emergency management or another function within the homeland security or public safety enterprises. Those who pursue careers in public safety or work to ensure uninterrupted functioning of business and government play a crucial role in our society. These people are out there serving the public and, in some cases, risking their lives - they deserve the most effective and most challenging education they can get! Every day, I see that they have access to the best possible curricula, instructors and tools to be effective decision-makers and leaders in their respective fields.

What do you think are the most important aspects of achieving educational goals?

Learning how to gather information, assess it and use it to expand knowledge.
