I'M IN AND NOW I'm building Colorado Technical University's Nursing Science program to provide opportunities for educational preparation and career progress for our Nursing students!
Describe your educational and professional background.
I have a very strong liberal arts foundation in social and economic history and in child development and psychology. My first job in college was as a research assistant to Dr. L. Alan Sroufe in his early infantile autism laboratory at the legendary Institute of Child Development at the University of Minnesota. With this applied treatment and research background, I trained and began my career in Health Information Systems and then in Graduate Nursing. I appreciate the business side of healthcare as well as the patient care side; and try to bring the two perspectives together whenever possible in my work and guidance of faculty and students. I have worked clinically in both Health Informatics as well as in Nursing. The overarching focus of my career has been in designing and launching new and reinvigorated educational programming in both disciplines; incorporating the latest in professional practice standards, learning sciences and instructional technologies. My work at Colorado Technical University is, in many ways, the logical culmination of all my employment and education.
How do you use this experience to help CTU students achieve their goals?
I want to facilitate the efforts of students in Nursing and the Health Sciences to find the best places in the healthcare industry where they can make their greatest contributions to the well-being of their families and our society. I want to enable students to progress in their careers in Nursing from the Associate Degree in Nursing (RN) level, through to Bachelor's and Master's degree study and attainment in Nursing Science, and beyond. I want to guide students to discover their places as the new leaders in the profession of Nursing.
What impresses you most about CTU students?
CTU students are intensely focused on developing their skills and abilities. They are serious about making the most positive contributions possible to their workplaces and broader society. This desire to excel and to improve society at the same time gives them an edge in both their personal and professional lives. CTU students perservere to attain their goals long after most students would have given up.
